Kristin McHugh

Kristin McHugh is the producer and co-host of Common Ground. She also serves as a program officer for the Stanley Foundation. Kristin was born in St. Louis in 1972 and spent her childhood years in Illinois, Texas, and Iowa. She earned a B.A. in communications/ broadcast journalism from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in Cedar Falls in 1993.

Kristin's radio career started in the fall of 1991 with a volunteer news position at KUNI, the public radio station operated by UNI. She held a variety of news and announcing positions at three commercial radio stations before accepting the news director's position in 1995 at KWPC Radio in Muscatine, Iowa. During her four-year tenure there, Kristin earned dozens of state and national awards for news coverage. She's a past president of the Iowa Associated Press Broadcasters and the Iowa Broadcast News Association's board of directors.

Kristin, an avid quilter in her spare time, lives in Muscatine with her husband, Eugene Johnston, and their pet rabbit, McGwire.
